Quantity Surveyor (Residential & Commercial) – Full-Time

📍 Based in Cardiff
💰 £60K-£70K (DOE) + Car Allowance  

 

Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in your career? We’re looking for a driven professional with a strong background in residential and commercial construction to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on diverse projects, from housing developments and apartment complexes to office buildings and retail spaces.

About the Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for cost management, contract administration, and financial control across a variety of construction projects. You’ll play a key role in ensuring profitability, managing budgets, and maintaining project cash flow.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Preparing cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents for residential and commercial projects.
  • Conducting feasibility studies to assess project viability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Managing and monitoring project costs, ensuring budget adherence and company cash flow.
  • Assessing and negotiating contracts, subcontracts, and procurement agreements.
  • Measuring and valuing construction work, including variations and change orders.
  • Preparing and submitting valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
  • Collaborating with developers, contractors, architects, and project managers to ensure financial efficiency.
  • Conducting risk assessments and value engineering to maximise cost savings.
  • Ensuring compliance with UK construction laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Assisting in dispute resolution, claims management, and contract variations.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field. RICS or CIOB accreditation is desirable.
Experience: Proven experience in residential and/or commercial construction projects in the UK.
Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC).
  • Excellent cost control, budgeting, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong communication and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work to tight deadlines.
  • Thrives in a small team environment, working collaboratively.
  • Proven ability to manage and project cash flows.
