Mechanical Engineer
Location: Port Talbot
Salary: £44,000–£49,000 per year (inclusive of shift premium)
Job Type: Permanent | Full-time
Rhino Recruitment is working with a leading manufacturing company in the Port Talbot area. We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer seeking long-term career progression and job stability within a well-established organisation.
Requirements Qualifications:
- Time-served mechanical apprenticeship (essential)
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (desirable)
- Counterbalance forklift licence (advantageous but not essential)
Experience:
- Experience in an FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) environment
- Previous experience in a BRC Certified workplace (desirable)
- Experience with machining and welding (desirable)
- Strong background in reactive and preventative maintenance
- Proven ability to diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance in line with schedules
- Respond efficiently to mechanical breakdowns to minimise downtime
- Diagnose and repair faults on production equipment and machinery
- Ensure all maintenance and repairs are documented accurately
- Work collaboratively with the engineering and production teams
- Follow all health and safety procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency

- Hands-on approach with a strong technical background
- Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong organisational and workload management abilities
- Good communication skills, with the ability to interact at all levels
- Attention to detail and ability to work methodically under pressure
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Computer literate with experience using maintenance management systems (desirable)
